Changing the system of care for students experiencing homelessness
We are so excited to share that Project Hope Alliance was recently awarded a three year $2.12 million grant from CalOptima, “Orange County’s largest health insurer for low income, children, adults, and seniors”, to support Orange County’s students experiencing homelessness!
We know there are over 23,000 students experiencing homelessness in our schools, yet our school partners face barriers to properly support the students including lack of funding, training, and capacity. Due to these barriers, students experiencing homelessness are more likely to miss school, drop out of high school, and sadly perpetuate the cycle of poverty.
Because of our experience, our expertise, and our proven results including a 93% high school graduation rate, we developed a comprehensive three year implementation plan to partner with Orange County Department of Education and all 28 school districts to provide county-wide, coordinated, youth-centered, culturally responsive support to students experiencing homelessness. This work of identifying and training up our county to meet the needs of students experiencing homelessness today prevents homelessness tomorrow.
We are excited to partner with our educators, school personnel, administrators, CalOptima, our generous community of supporters, and most importantly our youth to disrupt the cycle of homelessness for our Orange County kids.
To the 23,000+ students experiencing homelessness in Orange County, we see you, we are here for you, and we believe in your potential.
Stay tuned for more updates!
